I believe we can all be more self-sufficient. Prices are astronomical and it makes sense to feed yourself and your family. Farming and gardening have lost a lot of old-world knowledge, and we are constantly bombarded with gimmicks. My goal is to offer solid animals and gardening products without gimmicks and at reasonable prices.
My Mission
Rex Rabbits - Available Rabbits
Breed Spotlight
Breeding and raising Rex Rabbits for sustainable meat source and for fertilizer for our garden. We do not currently show our rabbits and offer our rabbits for homestead use. Our focus in our breeding program is mothering ability, ease of breeding, mild temperaments and grow out of the kits. Colors we raise are Castor, Chocolate, Blue, Black, Black Otter and Chocolate Otter. We may have a Red Rex program next year as well as REW and Blue and Lilac Otters. We have added red to our breeding program. This has expanded our color rage to include reds, Ambers and Torts. I'm very fond of the reds and Torts. They are so pretty this year.
We sell as primarily Homestead Rabbits. As a result, our choices on who to keep may differ from a show breeder. We are working on a couple of lines that can produce showable bunnies but for now that is not the primary goal of our rabbitry. We do offer Pedigrees as this is to help you as the homesteader know who's who when choosing which rabbits to breed for their farm.
Poultry Farming - Available Chickens
My goal in my poultry breeding is to breed for true dual purpose birds. I have tried fancy birds and found they just don't make solid homestead birds. Our birds have to feed us in both meat and eggs. They have to have good temperament and be solid foragers. No free loaders allowed. I have a couple of heritage breeds that are outstanding true dual-purpose breeds and Sex Link crosses that help customers get day old chicks as hens or roosters. Sex Link hybrids allow us to focus on increased laying ability in the hens and increased meat production in the roosters that come from these crosses. Currently our fresh eating eggs are sold through wholesale to Walley Farms Dairy in Jacksonville. Please look them up. *I offer hatching eggs only upon request with prepay. Please contact me via text or email if you would like to secure hatching eggs. They are more expensive than fresh eating eggs due to the handling requirements.
Our breeds for 2025 are:
Sex Link Hybrids We have a flock of New Hampshire roosters over 2 breeds that we have tested over many years - Barred Rock and Columbian Rock. The goals here being to know hens from roosters at hatch so we can sell the hens directly and feed out the roosters for meat. Each breed was chosen for hardiness, foraging ability, good meat production as well as strong laying. The combination of breeds will provide the buyer with birds that lay through the year and have hybrid vigor. If you want a few birds and don't want to deal with buying roosters at hatch this is your best option.
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte - We love this breed and are going back to it this year in 2025. We are expecting our new flock to arrive in May and will have offspring next year from this breed.
New Hampshire Reds - These are fast maturing birds. Good layers that lay regardless of season. They make great meat chickens if processed early in age at an early age. This breed is used in our Sex Link Hybrids to encourage faster maturity and increase laying ability.
Barred Rock - Beautiful birds that lay great and are great all-purpose table birds. These grow off faster for table use and lay really well. They do taper off more in Summer as they are bigger bodied birds. Hens that have reached the end of use are outstanding roasters. Added benefit of this breed is they are harder for aerial predators to see on range. This breed is used on our Sex Link Hybrids.
Columbian Rock - Strikingly beautiful birds with black head and tail feathers on a white base. They come with all the qualities of a Rock, early maturity, good laying ability and good dress out for table use. These are some of the prettiest birds you can get in my opinion. This breed is used in our Sex Link Hybrids.
Pricing and Sales
Pricing is set based on investment and time into the animal. Older rabbits and more proven rabbits do cost more. I do a cost analysis of what it costs me to raise and care for the animals I sell. Our goal as a homestead is to produce for us and to sell the extra bounty we have. Prices are set based on necessity and are not negotiable.
All sales are final. I do not offer to take back an animal nor do I issue refunds should something unforeseen happen after the sale.
I accept cash or cash App upon inquiry. We do not transport or meet you for exchange. You can text or email to arrange a time to come pick up your animals. Please bring adequate carriers with you. I do reserve the right to refuse the sale if you do not bring adequate transport.
Feeding program - We currently feed a mixture of Lonestar Show (18% protein) and Lonestar Commercial (16%) with calf manna as mineral additive. I find that the commercial on its own builds more abdominal fat but mixing it half and half with the 18% protein feed is a good balance. We add Calf Mana for minerals because mineral blocks corrode cages. Standard Coastal hay is fed both morning and night. Hay is critical to their gut function. We avoid alfalfa hay with bucks as it builds up urinary calculi so standard coastal you get from your local feed store is what we use.
